CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
BY-LAW NO. 80-16
BEING a by-law to adopt amendment No.2 to the Official Plan of the Bruce
Planning Area.
WHEREAS the Planning Act R.S.O. 1970, Chap. 349 as amended thereto, sections
13 and 17 authorizes a municipal ity to adopt an Official Plan by by-law.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Townshjp of Bruce in
accordance with the provisions of sections 13 and 17 of The Planning Act,
hereby enacts as follows:
1. Amendment No. 2 to the Official Plan for the Bruce Planning Area,
consisting of the attached explanatory text, is hereby adopted. (Schedule A)
2. That the Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to make application to
the Minister of Housing for approval of Amendment No. 2 to the Official
Plan for the Bruce Planning Area.
3. This By-law shall come into force and take effect on the day of the final
passing thereof.
By-law introduced and read a First time this SIXTH day of AUGUST, 1980.

By-law read a Third time and finally passed, signed, sealed and numbered

PART A - THE PREAMBLE
PURPOSE
The purpose of this amendment is to change the land use designation of
certain lands, as shown on Schedule "A" attached, from 'Rural' to 'Hamlet
Residential',
LOCATION
This amendment applies to those lands located within the south-easterly and
the south-westerly quadrants of the intersection of Highway 21 and Bruce
County Road No. 11 as shown on Schedule "A" attached.
BASIS
In the immediate vicinity of Highway 21 and Bruce County Road No. 11 is located
the small settlement of North Bruce. This settlement contains a limited amount
of residential and local commercial land uses and functions primarily as a
local service centre for the surrounding rural area.
The south half of North Bruce, which forms the subject of this Amendment, is
located in Bruce Township; while the north half is located in Saugeen Township.
The predominant land use in both Townships is that of a non-urban nature
related to agriculture and 'associated rural activities.
The Land Use Policies of both the Bruce Planning Area Official Plan and the
Saugeen and District Planning Area Official Plan emphasize the maintenance of
the rural character of their respective rural areas and discourage scattered,
isolated residential development. In this regard, it is the intent of both
Official Plans that any future development of an urban nature should be
directed to the hamlet areas.
Accordingly, the Bruce County South Official Plan; which established a two~
tier system of urban centres for the southern portion of Bruce County consisting
of the Towns and of the Villages and Hamlets, designates North Bruce as
'Hamlet Community'. Further, the north half of North Bruce has been designated
'Village Community' on Schedule "A" - the Rural Land Use Plan, for the Saugeen
and District Planning Area Official Plan. The south half of North Bruce,
however, has not been designated likewise on Schedule "A" to the Bruce Planning
Area Official Plan.
Consequently, the redesignation of the south half of North Bruce to 'Hamlet
Residential' would be consistent with the Land Use Policies of the Bruce
Planning Area Official Plan, as well as those of the Saugeen and District
Planning Area Official Plan and the Bruce county South Official Plan, and
therefore would be appropriate.
