Enqineer's Report DRAINAGE AREA The exact extent of the drainage area of the subject drain can be seen on the plan. The total watershed area is approximately 80 hectares or 200 acres. There are two dominate soil types within the drainage area. The higher lands consist of Elderslie Silty Clay Loam which has imperfect natural drainage, a smooth, gently sloping topography and is generally stone free. The lower lands, where the proposed drainage works will be installed, consist of Chesley Silty Clay Loam. This soil has poor natural drainage with smooth, very gently sloping topography, and generally stone free. The agricultural· capability of both of the soil groups is Class 2 with a restriction due to wetness. All of the cleared land within the drainage area is used for agricultural production of cash crops (corn hay and grain), while some is used for pasture purposes. The extent of the bush area within and adjacent to the watershed can be seen from the plan. For the purposes of The Drainage Act, the lands requiring drainage, which is generally described as the low wet areas in a watershed, are considered to be those low wet areas in Lots 8, 9 and 10, Concession 10, and Lots 9 and 10, Concession 11. PROPOSED WORK While full details of the propesed work within this report can be obtained from the profile and specifications, a short description follows. In designing this drain, a drainage co-efficient of ~II in 24 hours has been used which is a commonly utilized co-efficient for lands to be used for cash crop purposes. It is proPQsed to install a catchbasin junction box at the Lot line between Lot 8 and 9, Concession 10 and proceed northerly with a tile drain to the Concession Road. A bored pipe crossing is proposed for the Concession Road with junction box catch-basins at each end. The drain will continue northerly through Lot 9 as a tile drain to outlet in the intermittent stream near the Lot 8, 9 boundary at a point indicated as Station 0+000. At this point, the drain will become an open ditch proceeding northerly through the Concession 11-12 line and proceeding into Lot 9, Concession 12 for a distance sufficient to obtain an adequate outlet. I ~-. In addition, Branch A will be constructed from Station 0+495 on the main drain proceeding in a south~easter1y direction between the house and barn of Lot 9, Concession 11 up to the Concession 12 road. At this point, a bored road crossing will be installed with junction box catchbasins installed on each side of the road allowance. Any tiles encountered during construction will be either reconnected or connected to the main drain depending on their size. Any tile not encountered, but which require extension to the drain, will be the responsibility of the landowner to have that tile extended and connected to the municipal drain. At the upstream end of the drain, the two junction box catchbasins will have a blocked hole provided to allow for connection at that point by upstream landowners. Form No. 115 Page 3 of4 3.
