ERGIIlEBR . S REPORT
.
DRAINAGE AREA
The exact extent of the drainage area of the subject drain can be seen on the
plan. The total watershed which will utilize the subject drain is approximately
36 hectares (90 acres).
The entire watershed consists of Perth clay which is a heavy textured till. This
soil is considered to have imperfect natural drainage and is smooth to gently
sloping and has few stones.
The soil profile consists of 6 inches of very dark grey clay loam topsoil with
the lower A2 and 13 horizons mottled with gritty clay parent material, pale brown
in colour.
For the purposes of The Drainage Act, the lands requiring drainage, generally
described as the low wet area wi thin the watershed, are considered to be those
low wet areas in Lots 21 and 22, Concession 5, and Lots 20, 21, 22, Concession
4, Township of Bruce adjacent to County Road 20.
All of the land in the watershed is used for mixed farming or cash crop production.
There is no bush within the watershed boundary and the land use agricultural
capability designation for the entire watershed is Class 1.
WA'rERSHED HOUllDARY
The watershed boundary, as shown on the plan was established from field inspection,
air photo interpretation and reference to existing municipal drain by-laws which
either abut the subject lands or include the subject lands. Unfortunately, the
Wrightson Drain plan is not available, however reference to the text of the
Wrightson Drain and the approximate area serviced by that drain was considered
in the determination of the watershed boundary for the subject drain. The
Wrightson Drain is adjacent to the 4th of Bruce Municipal Drain which is to the
west along the County Road.
.
PRESEII'l' COIIIDITIOIII
The lands within the watershed are presently serviced by a combination of overland
flow, private tile, and roadside ditch. The lands which are proposed to be
provided with an outlet, drain in a general easterly direction to eventually
outlet southerly in a private pond adjacent to the Wrightson Drain. A private
tile has been installed along the Concession Road which has been subsequently
upgraded to a County Road and a clay tile has been installed to the approximate
boundary between Lots 22 and 23, Concession 4. The tile at the downstream end
have been scoured and are in disrepair. A significant hole exists at the County
Road in Lot 22, Concession 4 and another tile failure exists at the approximate
boundary between Lot 21 and 22 which is a private tile connection to the drain
which exists on the road allowance. At the very upstream end, manholes were
installed on each side of the road at the time of the construction of the
development road. They are connected by a 12 inch corrugated steel pipe. The
pri vate tiles outlet into these manholes and at the time of inspection, no water
was running in the outlet from the southerly manhole easterly.

PROPOSED WORK
This report proposes to construct a covered drain in order to provide outlet
to the lands requiring drainage. The plans and profile included in this report
provide the technical information concerning the proposed construction. A general
description of the proposed work is as follows. Starting at the upstream end
in Lot 21, it is proposed to start the drain at an existing manhole on the south
side of County Road 20, just east of the intersection of County Road 20, and
Sideroad 20-21. The drain will proceed easterly in the ditch line of County
Road 20 through Lot 21 and thr!"ugh approximately 3/4 of Lot 22 to a point where
the water now congregates due to natural slope and where the water subsequently
flows southerly. At the approximate boundary between Lot 21 and 22, at Station
0+659, a road crossing will be installed to provide outlet for the eastern portion
of Lot 21. On either end of this road crossing, a catchbasin will be installed
to connect the various branches of the municipal drain. An additional road
crossing will be installed at approximately Station 0+343, once again catchbasins
will be installed on either end of the crossing. This crossing will provide
outlet to the area in Lot 22 which is within the watershed boundary.
At Station 0+343, the drain will change direction to proceed southerly.
It will
be installed in the existing low run to the property line between Lots 22 and
23. At this point an outlet pipe will be installed and the existing water course
will be modified so as to provide a riprapped stilling basin which will then
allow the water to flow as it presently does by surface flow through Lot 23,
to the pond which has been constructed adjacent to the Wrightson Drain. The
owner of Lot 23 was consulted and requested that the closed drain end at the
property boundary. The downstream end of the tile drain will be at approximately
Station 0+110 while an open drain will be required to be constructed to
approximately Station 0+080. In addition, the gulley which has started through
the low run will be regraded and reseeded to provide a grassed waterway. In
addition, it is proposed that the roadside ditch will be regraded to more closely
approximate the ditch grade which was proposed in the original construction
documents for the improvement of this Concession Road.
