HomeMy WebLinkAboutBRU 96 010 amend #94-6 fire dep 'lBE CORPORA'l'IOR OF 'lBE 'l'OIf1fSHIP OF BRUCE BY-LAW RO. 96-10 BEIRO A BY-LAW TO ESTABLISH UD REGULATE THE PAISLEY UD AREA FIRE DEPAR'l'MBII'l'. Whereas Chapter M.45, Sections 210, Subsection (31) of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, provides that Council may by by-law establish and regulate a Fire Department. Therefore, the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Bruce enact the following amendment to By-law No. 94-6 to establish and regulate the Paisley and Area Fire Department: 1. (a) That current Paragraph 4(b) be deleted; and (b) That the following paragraph be inserted in the place of Paragraph 4(b) of By-law No. 94-6. Persons who wish to be a member of the Paisley Fire Department must supply the Fire Chief with a current document stating that this person is in good physical condition. This document must be signed by a doctor and shall be dated no more than 90 days prior to the request of verification by the Fire Chief. Once accepted to be a member of the Fire Department, the same medical conditions must be followed and if at any time they cannot be adhered to this must be brought to the attention of the Fire Chief. . At this time, the Fire Chief shall contact the Chairman of the Fire Committee and notify them that we have a concern about a firefighter's medical condition. If the condition is thought to be severe enough to h.-per the firefighters duties, the Fire Chief will ask for the person not to respond to any emergency situations until the Fire COImIittee and the Fire Chief have a chance to review wi th the firefighter, the status change in the medical condition. At any time the Fire Chief has concerns about the physical health of one of the firefighters, he may again ask for the firefighter not to respond to any emergency calls until the Fire Committee has been notified. If the Fire cOImIittee feels the need that a person must go and see a physician to verify that they are in good physical shape, in order to perform the duties of the firefighter, the Coamittee will cover the cost of the third party medical request, which will be done by a physician of the Fire Coggdttee's choice. At any time a firefighter is not able to supply the Fire Chief with a signed medical certificate, indicating the said person is in good medical condition, the firefighter may be asked to resign from the Fire Department, again only after the Fire COImIittee has a meeting with both the firefighter and Fire Chief. ROTE: The medical standards that the Paisley Fire Department follow and require firefighters to adhere to are the current medical standards required by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, for persons required to have either a Class "A", "B", "c" or "D" driver's licence. 2. This by-law takes effect upon passage by Council and when supported by the other participating municipalities listed in Paragraph 1(a) of By-law No. 94-6. By-law introduced and read a First time this TWENTY-EIGHTH day of MAY, 1996. By-law read a Second time this TWENTY-EIGHTH day of MAY, 1996.
