HomeMy WebLinkAboutBRU 97 012 provide advance vote THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE BY-LAW NO. 97-12 A BY-LAW to provide for advance votes to be held prior to voting day. WHEREAS Section 43(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, R.S.O. 1996, provides that a municipal Council shall pass a by-law establishing one or more dates for an advance vote, and the hours during which voting places shall be open on that date or dates; AND WHEREAS the Township of Bruce and the Village of Tiverton have a Restructuring Proposal approved by a Minister's Restructuring Order Under Subsection 25.2(6)(b) of the Municipal Act. AND WHEREAS the Restructuring Order states in section 1 and 2: 1. Restructuring - On January 1, 1998, The Corporation of the Township of Bruce and The Corporation of the Village of Tiverton are amalgamated as a Township under the name of The Corporation of the Township of Bruce (hereinafter, the "new Township") within the County of Bruce. 2. Municipal Election (1) A regular municipal election will be held in November, 1997 as if the municipalities had already been restructured. (2) The Clerk responsible for conducting the November, 1997 municipal el ection shall be the Clerk of The Corporation of the Township of Bruce. (3) The Council of The Corporation of the Township of Bruce is deemed to be the Council of the new Township for the purposes of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Bruce enacts as follows: 1. One advance vote shall be held on Wednesday, November 5th, 1997 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers in the Municipal Building in the Hamlet of Underwood. 2. That a second advance vote shall be held on Saturday, November 8th, 1997 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the Tiverton Community Centre in the Village of Tiverton.
