THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF KINCARDINE
BY-LAW NO. 4263
.
BEING A BY-LAW TO DESIGNATE THE HOME OF THOMAS AND MARGOT HANKS
at. 776 Princes St.reet. of ARCHITECTURAL VALUE.
WHEREAS t.he Ont.ario Herit.age Act., 1974 aut.horizes t.he Council of a
municipalit.y t.o enact. By-laws t.o designat.e real propert.y, including
all t.he buildings and st.ruct.ures t.hereon, to be in hist.oric or
Archit.ect.ural value or interest.; and
WHEREAS t.he Council of The Corporat.ion of t.he Town of Kincardine
has caused to be served upon t.he owner of t.he lands and premises
known as the home of Thomas and Margot. Hanks at 776 Princes Street.
upon the Ontario Herit.age Foundation not.ice of int.ention to so
designate t.he aforesaid real propert.y and has caused such not.ice
of int.ention t.o be published in a newspaper having a general
circulation in t.he municipalit.y once for each of t.hree consecutive
weeks; and
WHEREAS the reasons for designat.ion are set. out. in Schedule "B"
heret.o , and
WHEREAS no not.ice of objection t.o t.he said proposed designat.ion has
been served upon t.he Clerk of t.he Municipalit.y;
THEREFORE, The Council of The Corporat.ion of t.he Town of Kincardine
ENACTS as follows:
1. There is designat.ed as being of architect.ural value or
int.erest t.he real property more part.icularly described
in Schedule "A" hereto, known as the home of Thomas and
Margot. Hanks at. 776 Princes St.reet.
2. The Town Solicit.or is hereby aut.horized to cause a copy of
t.his By-law t.o be regist.ered against. the propert.y described
in Schedule "A" heret.o in the proper land registry office.

The TOlilll Clerk is hereby aut.horized to cause a copy of
t.his By-law to be servèd. . upon t.he owner of the aforesaid
propert.y and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundat.ion and
to cause notice of this By-law t.o be published in a
newspaper having general circulation in the TOlilll of Kincardine.

SCHEDULE "A"

ALL AND SINGULAR that certain parcel or tract ot land, situate,
lying and being in the Town of Kincardine, in the County of Bruce
and Province of Ontario and being composed of parts of Lots
numbers 5 and 6 on the West side of Princes Street., in t.he said
Town ot Kincardine, more particularly described as follows:
COMMENCING at a point in the north limit of said Lot number 5,
distant 90 feet measured easterly along said northerly limit from
the northwest angle of said lot number 5;
THENCE EASTERLY along said northerly limit 141 feet more or less
to the northeasterly angle of said Lot number 5;

THENCE SOUTHERLY along t.he east.erly limit of said Lots numbers 5
and 6 (being also the westerly limit of Princes Street) 135 feet
more or less to t.he southeast angle of the north half of said lot

number 6;
THENCE WESTERLY along t.he southerly 11mi t of the north half of
said lot number 6, 141 feet more or less t.o a point. therein, distant.
90 feet. measured east.erly from t.he west. limit of said lot number 6;
THENCE NORTHERLY and parallel to the westerly limits ot said lots
numbers 6 and 5, 135 feet more or less t.o t.he point. of commence-
ment.
SUBJECT TO a right-of-way in, over, along and upon t.he lands more
particularly described as follows, being parts of lots numbers 5
and 6 west of Princes St.reet;

distant 90 feet. measured east.erly thereon from t.he northwest angle
t.hereof;

THENCE SOUTHERLY and parallel wit.h t.he west.erly limit.s of said lot.s
numbers 5 and 6, a distance of 135 feet;
THENCE EASTERLY and parallel wit.h the sout.herly limit of said Lot.
number 6, a distance of 8 feet;
THENCE NORTHERLY and parallel with the west limits of said lot.s
numbers 6 and 5, a distance of 135 feet more or less to the northerly
limit of said Lot number 5;
THENCE WESTERLY along the said northerly limit, 8 feet to the point
of commencement.

The Hanks residence is an example ot t.he well maintained
It.alianite style residence and should be maintained as such.
This house was built by one ot the first settlers (Keywort.h)
and in t.urn was the residence ot three families (the Malcolm,
the Bieman and the Mitchell) of great import.ance in the now-
past manufacturing hist.ory of t.he Town of Kincardine.
The building is t.hree st.oreys in height with double chimney
stacks. The building also has a tower which is locat.ed on t.he
main facade and is cent.re of the building, with it. going
to t.he height ot t011r st.oreys. The house has a mansard roof
wit.h a low pit.ch, part. ot the roof being slate. The interest.ing
tront. entrance has one large double door with bevelled glass
in t.he t.op part. of it.. The lower part. is of heavy bolect.ion
(project.ing) panel moulds and is solid wood const.ruction. The
windows are arched, t.he lower windows having brick headers
and t.he second floor windows having decorat.ed stone headers.

There is also an iron fence across t.he front. of t.he propert.y
giving the house great character.
