THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF KINCARDINE
BY-LAW NO. 1987-103
.
BEING A BY-LAW TO DESIGNATE THE HOME OF
TONY AND ELEANOR MCCANN AT 250 DURHAM STREET AS BEING
OF HISTORIC OR ARCHITECTURAL VALUE.
WHEREAS the Ontario Heritage Act, 1980, authorizes the council of
a municipality to enact by-laws to designate real property
including all the buildings and structures thereon, to be of
historic or architectural value and interest; and
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Kincardine
has caused to be served on the owner of the lands and premises
known as the home of Tony and Eleanor McCann at 250 Durham Street
and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation notices of intention to
so designate the aforesaid real property and has caused such
notice of intention to be published in a newspaper having general
circulation in the municipality once for each of three
consecutive weeks; and
WHEREAS the reasons for designation are set out in Schedule "B"
hereto; and
THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Kincardine ENACTS as follows:
1. There is designated as being of architectural value and
interest the real property more particularly described in
Schedule "A" hereto, known as the home of Tony and Eleanor
McCann at 250 Durham Street.

SCHEDULE FOR DESCRIPTION

SCHEDULE "B"
REASONS:
250 Durham Street is a perfect Queen Anne Revival Styled
home, with attached offset tower. It was built in 1910 by W. J.
Bruce, initiating a three generation dynasty of dentists in
Kincardine. Purchased in 1927 by the United Church of Canada,
the house was used for decades as a manse and place of worship.
The following are the significant features of the building:
The slate roof and supporting structure, brickwork,
verandah, decorative wooden trim and front door including
glass on the exterior; stain glass windows throughout,
plaster work (walls, ceilings, murals), woodwork (stairway,
wood panelling, bannisters, sliding door between
living/dining room, wood columns in front entrance) hardwood
floors, and fireplaces in the interior.
