THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KINCARDINE
BY-LAW
NO. 2008 - 019
BEING A BY-LAW TO DESIGNATE THE HOME OF BRIAN AND BRENDA
GROHS AT 276 DURHAM STREET, MUNICIPALITY OF KINCARDINE
(FORMER TOWN OF KINCARDINE) AS BEING OF HISTORIC OR
ARCHITECTURAL VALUE
WHEREAS Section 29 (1) of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. 0.18, as
amended, authorizes the Council of a municipality to enact by-laws to designate
a property within the municipality to be of cultural heritage value or interest;
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Municipality of Kincardine has caused to be
served on the owner of the lands and premises known as the home of Brian and
Brenda Grohs, 276 Durham Street, Municipality of Kincardine and upon The
Ontario Heritage Foundation, notice of intention to so designate the aforesaid
property and has caused such notice of intention to so designate the aforesaid
real property to be published in a newspaper having general circulation in the
Municipality;
AND WHEREAS the reasons for designation are set out in Schedule "B"
attached hereto;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of The Corporation of the Municipality of
Kincardine ENACTS as follows:
1.
There is designated as being of architectural value and interest the real
property more particularly described in Schedule "A" hereto, known as the
home of Brian and Brenda Grohs, 276 Durham Street, Municipality of
Kincardine, Ontario.
2. The Clerk is hereby authorized to cause of copy of this by-law to be
registered against the property described in Schedule "A" hereto in the
proper land registry office.
3. The Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of the by-law to be served
upon the owner of the aforesaid property and upon The Ontario Heritage
Foundation and to cause notice of this by-law to be published in a
newspaper having general circulation in the Municipality of Kincardine.
4. This by-law shall come into full force and effect upon its final passing.

This by-law may be cited as the "276 Durham Street Heritage Designation
By-law" .

Schedule "A"
The property is described as "Part Lot 8 Durham S/S RP, 3R4762 Part 1, Roll #
4108 220 005 04105 0000.
The said lands have a site area of 10,661.11sqft, Frontage of 60.64ft, and a
depth of 175.81ft.

Schedule "B"
This house was the residence of Dr. Solomen Secord (1934 - 1910). Dr. Secord
was the of the same family as Laura Secord, a noted Kincardine Physician for
over 50 years, a surgeon in the American Civil War and a respected Kincardine
Pioneer.
The home is of Gothic Revival style with a remarkably unblemished exterior. The
interior has been restored with exquisite, accurate, period detailing.
